Trauma isn't just about what happened. It's about how your mind and body learned to survive. Those survival methods have served you for a long time. And they've also come at a cost.

That cost might be an inability to relax, no matter how hard you try to let go and unwind. It might be the negative thoughts and beliefs you have about yourself, even when you don't quite understand where they came from. Or it might be the numbness and disconnection you feel during times when you "should" be happy and engaged. These experiences don't mean that you're broken. They're messages from your nervous system that it's stuck in survival mode.

Here's where trauma therapy comes in.

Trauma Therapy in Brooklyn, NY Could Help You If...
  •   You struggle with feelings of fear, worry, and tension, even when nothing around you is obviously "wrong."

  • You've been living with internalized negative stories about yourself for so long that they've come to feel like the truth.

  • At times you feel numb, far away, or disconnected from your surroundings and the people you care about.

  • You experience intrusive memories, feelings, or body sensations that remind you of events from your past.

  • Your emotions can be so big that it feels like you're being hit by a wave that's unpredictable and hard to control.

  • You're ready to move beyond just surviving and experience what life can be like when you feel truly safe.

How Trauma Therapy in Brooklyn, NY Can Help

Trauma therapy provides the opportunity for your mind, body, and nervous system come out of survival mode and return to a resting state grounded in safety. Gently, we'll work to help you process and heal from what you've experienced so you can feel more at ease, more present, and more joyful in your day to day life.

  • You've built new, more empowering narratives about yourself and your experiences

  • You no longer carry weight of past hurts and you feel safely rooted in the present

  • You're confident in your ability to experience emotions without getting overwhelmed or feeling out of control

  • You feel freer and more able to enjoy the moments of your life

My Approach to Therapy for Trauma

My guiding principles when it comes to therapy for trauma are safety and sustainability.

This means that we will go at a pace that works for you, your mind, and your body. It means that we'll be checking in regularly with how you're feeling, both emotionally and physically. And it also means that we'll use evidence-backed therapy methods that will help you heal from what you've experienced without becoming emotionally flooded or re-traumatized.

In trauma work with me, we will always approach the healing process with intention, gentle care, and a constant focus on what is safe and sustainable for you.

Our work will also follow a three-phase structure that helps guide the therapy. These phases are:

Stabilization - Where we focus on practicing tools for regulation and grounding so that you feel more resourced, steady, and able to move through triggers and big emotions.

Processing - Where we use methods like EMDR and IFS to help you work through traumatic events so that you can move forward feeling more at peace with and less impacted by these events in your present day life.

Integration - Where we help you find meaning in what you've experienced and a sense of identity and purpose that spans beyond your trauma so that you no longer have to feel defined by it.
