You want close, fulfilling relationships so badly.

But once you get close, the fear kicks in. Will they accept me or decide I'm too much? If I let them in will they end up disappointing me? How do I know when it's safe to trust? These questions hold you back from being fully present and authentic with others, keeping you feeling lonely and unseen.

You don't need to change who you are to have the relationships you deserve. You just need help knowing it's safe to let others see you.

Here's where relationship and attachment therapy comes in.

Relationship & Attachment Therapy in Brooklyn, NY Might Be for You If...

  •   You struggle with anxiety about being abandoned or rejected and "too much, or "not enough" for the people in your life.

  • You often replay interactions in your head or re-read text conversations to make sure you didn't say or do the "wrong thing."

  • Conflict isn't just uncomfortable. It's terrifying. You'll do almost anything to avoid it, even if it means putting others' needs before your own.

  • You want love and intimacy, yet find yourself instinctually pulling away and creating distance when someone tries to really connect with you.

  • You feel stuck repeating painful patterns in relationships. You long to uncover where these patterns come from and find a new way forward.

  • You've been hurt before and you're scared of being hurt again. But you're ready to address these fears if it leads you to true closeness.

Therapy for relationships and attachment in Brooklyn, NY offers the support you need to build safe, lasting connections. By exploring your current relationships through the lens of your relationship history, we'll help you discover more sustainable and satisfying ways of relating to the people that matter most to you.

My Approach to Therapy for Relationships & Attachment

In attachment-focused therapy, we'll be guided by the principle that our relationship histories shape us and inform our relationships now.

This means we'll start by getting to know what close relationships have been like for you and what you've come to believe about and expect from relationships as a result. We'll get curious about how those beliefs and expectations affect your current relationships, as well as the protective role they may be playing. From there, we'll use this understanding to attend to relational wounds that need healing and explore new ways to build connections that feel safe.

Our sessions will also focus on learning skills to help you approach your relationships differently. We'll look at strategies for recognizing your automatic emotional responses and how to slow them down so you have more choice over how you communicate and connect. We'll help you build capacity to move through vulnerable moments without withdrawing or abandoning yourself to appease others. And we'll identify what your relationship needs are, as well as when and how to establish boundaries that will keep your relationships sustainable and healthy.

In attachment focused work, I also often use the following targeted approaches to process relational trauma and build interpersonal tools:

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) - To help you process moments from your relationship history that feel stuck. Sometimes past experiences where you felt rejected, betrayed, or unsafe can continue to dictate how you approach your relationships in the present. EMDR can help take the charge out of these memories so that you have more space to let in new relationship experiences.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) - To help you resolve inner conflict you may be experiencing around connection with others. The push-pull dynamics that leave you confused and frustrated are often fueled by parts of you that developed in response to difficult experiences and that serve a protective purpose. Through IFS, we extend curiosity and compassion to these parts so you can shift your relationships to others and to yourself.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) - To give you skills for regulating intense feelings and navigating your relationships effectively. Relationships can bring up some of our most powerful emotions. DBT offers practical tools to help you deescalate during emotionally charged moments so you can respond with agency, clarity, and confidence.
