FAQ
I am an out-of-network provider, which means I don't accept insurance and my clients submit payment for sessions to me directly. I can however provide you with the documentation you need to be reimbursed by your insurance company for our sessions through out-of-network benefits. If you have out out-of-network coverage, you may be eligible to have a large portion of our sessions reimbursed to you (average out-of-network reimbursement rate is 60% - 80% of the session fee after your deductible is met).
My fee is $225 for individual sessions, $350 for couples sessions, and $150 for clinical supervision. I have a limited number of sliding scale slots, meaning that we would discuss your budget and agree upon a fee that works for us both. Feel free to inquire about sliding scale when you reach out and I will let you know if I currently have capacity.
At the beginning of each month, I will send you a document called a superbill. You submit this document to your insurance company, they will process it, and then, if you have out-of-network coverage, they will send you a reimbursement check in the mail. If you're not sure if you have out-of-network coverage, inquire with your insurance company. Here is a list of questions you can use as a guide when speaking with them:
• Do I have out-of network coverage for outpatient psychotherapy with an LCSW? (Provide them with the service billing code 90834)
• What is my deductible and have I met it yet? (a deductible is the amount you have to pay out of pocket before your insurance company will start reimbursing you)
• What is my coinsurance? (coinsurance is the % that your insurance company will pay after your deductible has been met. For example 30% coinsurance = you're responsible for 30% of the fee and they will reimburse 70% of the fee)
• How do I submit a claim for reimbursement? (Many insurance companies have mechanism for uploading your superbill through your online portal).
I offer both! I meet with clients virtually via Zoom and in person at my office in Brooklyn Heights.
I request that clients give me 24 hours notice when cancelling sessions. If you cancel with fewer than 24 hours notice or don't show up for your scheduled session, you will be responsible for the session fee. This policy makes sure that I have time to offer vacant session slots to other clients. I always make every effort to reschedule in the event of cancellations and if we're able to find an alternative time within the same week, the cancellation fee will not apply.
Finding the right fit is essential when starting your therapy journey. It's helpful to have an idea of what you're hoping to accomplish and what type of therapy you're looking for. This will help you narrow your search for therapists whose specializations match your needs. Beyond these details, knowing if it's "right" with a therapist often comes down to how it feels with them. A great way to figure this out is to set up a consultation call. I offer 15 minute complimentary consultation calls for prospective clients - I encourage you to schedule one so you can ask any questions you may have and get a sense of what it would feel like to work together.
In the first few sessions, I tend to focus on getting to know you, gathering important info about your history, and solidifying goals for therapy. In the early sessions I'll be asking lots of questions about you and your history. I'll also be sharing information to help you understand some of what you've been struggling with and how we'll be working to alleviate those struggles. From the beginning, I aim for therapy to feel like a collaboration, so I'll also be leaving lots of room for you to ask questions and share thoughts and feelings. One way to think of the purpose of the first few sessions is for us to create a map together. The ground we cover in those early sessions serves as the blueprint for the rest of the therapy journey.
